Friday, August 30th - Monday, September 2nd: Trip to Westport, WA- Great fun on the Pacific

We had a great Labor-Day weekend!

We decided to get the camper out and make a trip out to the coast to see the Pacific Ocean with the kids.  I've been keeping really busy with my work lately... getting settled into the routine of things and our busy schedule.  So, we haven't been going camping as often.  We made some reservations at a place called Island RV resort in Westport, WA.  Our friends, the Zertuches suggested it and joined us for the first two days out there.  We had a blast!

We crabbed for Red-Rock crabs and Dungenous crabs... lots of fun.  That's a ring trap with bait zip tied in the cage on the bottom..

There were sea lions all over the harbor and up on the docks... they can be pretty dangerous... We were warned to keep our distance.  They regularly charge fishermen on their way to their boats... at 700lbs + ... pretty crazy...   It was neat to see them swimming around the harbor...

We had a great time in Westport.  It was neat getting to see the sites and spend time together as a family.  We had a lot of fun crabbing.

 We had a great weekend.  We stayed at Island RV Resort.  Whey also run a hotel there.  The prices weren't the best, but they had full hookup at the sites- so that was convenient.

We had an issue with the connections when we first got there.  There are a lot of folks that drive motorhomes up there and like to park their motorhomes facing the bay.  Other folks face the other direction.  The trouble we had, was that we had to back in- to avoid parking my truck underwater- which put our connections on the opposite side of the camper from where our hookup was.  After we did a lot of talking with our neighbors, we worked things out.  I tried to relay this to the RV park management, but that was of little help.  The RV park also manages a hotel and restaurant.  The folks that work at the front desk didn't really understand much of anything about RVs or what I was trying to explain to them.  When we first parked the camper- we had no electrical, water, or sewer connections because our neighbors parked facing opposite directions from each other- which left us without any connections.  When I tried to explain this issue to them- they failed to understand the issue.  It was a bit confusing.  A few hours later, their "manager" on duty came out to the RV park to attempt to set the record straight on which plugs, water, and sewer connections were whose...  That was a laughable experience that further highlighted that they didn't understand RVs or camping since their "plan" didn't make any sense.-- Small frustration.. but we got over it.

It was really convenient being right on the water.  We were able to get up in the morning and go crabbing... and let the sleepy heads sleep in... we could see the camper from up on the boardwalk... so it was very convenient.  We enjoyed walking around the town on the waterfront.  There were a lot of nice stores and great scenery as we looked at about a thousand different fishing boats of different sizes.. crazy... they had everything from 15' outboards to 180' commercial fishing vessels there in the harbor.  We had a nice time getting to spend some time together.

It has been a stressful month for us.  I went straight to work shortly after doing the regular in-processing stuff.  I've had my hands full with a fairly young staff.  I've had to have my hands in a lot of things to be sure that I'm tracking everything that is going on in my new job- and providing the appropriate amount of supervision on things.  It has been a busy busy month... well over a month since we got to Washington.  It was great to get away from the house to spend some time together.. It makes us want to move back into the camper...  who knows.. maybe we will do that... ha..

We aren't sure what our next adventure will be.  We are thinking about going up into the Olympic Forest or over to Mount Rainier... but who knows.  We will see what we decide...
